Aminda Asher is a Suzuki-certified teacher and freelance cellist in New York city. After teaching in a few community schools in the NYC area, Aminda decided to expand her knowledge of the Suzuki method and over the course of a few summers became a certified Suzuki teacher, receiving training from some of the best teacher trainers at the Chicago Suzuki Institute. Aminda is currently on faculty at the 92nd Street Y and maintains a private studio on the Upper West Side.

I teach with the Suzuki philosophy that “every child can”. I believe that every child is talented and able to achieve their goals through music and develop skills both musically and personally that will last a lifetime. I believe that even if one is not on the path to becoming a professional musician, children benefit from setting goals and developing the discipline and desire to achieve them. It is so rewarding to see a student achieve their goals, no matter how big or small, and that is the biggest motivating factor for me as a teacher.

Over the last few years Ms. Asher has been teaching adult group cello classes at the 92nd Street Y as well as private lessons to those who are coming to the cello later in life or coming back to the cello after a long period of time away from it. It has been a pleasure to help students of all ages achieve their goals and find expression in music on the cello. Even more rewarding is the friendships and camaraderie that is formed in the group setting when people of all different walks of life and musical background come together to share music and their love of playing the cello.
